I had a sliding doors moment recently. Any of you who have seen the 1998 Gwyneth Paltrow film will understand exactly what I mean. I had a moment in my life where I was presented with an opportunity which would undoubtedly shape my future and take it in the direction I wanted it to go. As Einstein’s famous quote goes ‘If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got.”
Never before has that saying meant so much to me.
There must be so many of these opportunities around us – the trick is to notice them and act on them. We stick our heads in the sand and tell ourselves that we can’t, shouldn’t or couldn’t - life presents us with these opportunities but we are too scared to take them.
I’ve been a serial procrastinator in my time, never feeling quite experienced enough to do what I want to do or brave enough to give it a go. It was a spinetingling moment when I realised if I take this path in the road, it will lead me onto exciting things and thankfully now I have the courage to recognise it and act on it!
Becoming truly aware of those sliding door moments will help you to shape your future. You have to make changes to your daily habits and patterns otherwise life will carry on and nothing will change.
So that was my sliding door moment. I was presented with an opportunity and thought – it’s now or never and it is most definitely NOW!
Good luck in grabbing your sliding door moments – please share them with me firstname.lastname@example.org.
